Job summary

A healthcare staffing agency is seeking a Travel Registered Nurse for the Labor & Delivery Unit in Texas. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in labor management, IV therapy, and neonatal care. Shifts are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and candidates must live more than 150 miles from the facility. Certification in NRP, ACLS, and BLS is required. This position offers flexible start dates and the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations.

Overview

Labor & Delivery Unit - Travel Registered Nurse

Trusted Health is seeking an experienced nurse for this travel nursing assignment. Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Travel only; local not allowed. Candidates must live >150 miles from facility to be submitted.

Responsibilities

• IV therapy/Phlebotomy: administration of blood & blood products, drawing venous blood, maintain central lines (CVC / PICC), starting and maintaining IVs, use of infusion pumps / drips / IV monitoring.
• Labor and Delivery Management: amnioinfusion, assist with high risk delivery, assist with vaginal delivery, circulate for C-section, forceps/vacuum extraction, manage hemorrhage/shock, recover C-section, perform sterile vaginal exams.
• Work Settings: antepartum, facility births/month <100; 100-200; high risk antepartum; labor and delivery.
• Medication & Administration: anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, terbutaline.
• Neonatal Care in Delivery Room: APGAR scores, cord samples, ID/security banding, radiant warmers/thermoregulation.
• Antepartum Care and Procedures: sterile speculum exam (effacement, dilation, station, presentation), NST, reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus, sterile vaginal exam, triage of obstetrical patients, use of external fetal monitoring.
• Newborn Care: car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching to parents, infant identification, metabolic screen, neonatal abstinence syndrome, newborn assessment, newborn hypoglycemia, thermoregulation.
• Postpartum Care and Procedures: baby-friendly protocols, breastfeeding support/lactation support, episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, wound assessment and care.
• Surgical Case/Procedures: cervical cerclage, D&C, tubal ligation.
• Postpartum Care of the Patient with: cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, vaginal delivery.
• Pain Management: epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, IV conscious sedation, pain assessment & management, use of PCA (IV).
• Professional Topics and Skills: isolation precautions/PPE, vaccine administration.
• Fetal Monitoring: recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, use of external & internal fetal monitoring, use of IUPC placement and calibration.

Preferred Skills/Experience

• 3 years experience preferred
• Labor and Delivery Management: scrub for C-section
• Work Settings: LDRP, Level I Nursery, Mother/Baby
• Neonatal Care in Delivery Room: Baby Nurse ("Baby Catcher")
• Antepartum Care and Procedures: assist with amniocentesis, OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests)
• Newborn Care: assist with circumcision/assess site post-op, phototherapy, teach circumcision care to parents
• Pain Management: nitrous oxide
• Fetal Monitoring: spiral electrode placement
• Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Care: telemetry interpretation

Shift & Scheduling

• Start date options: 11/10 or 12/1
• Number of weekend shifts per contract: 13 out of weekend shifts (nights Fri/Sat/Sun) or days (Sat or Sun)

Floating Requirements

May be asked to float to other campus or another floor; must be flexible.
