Job description

A consequential night-shift leadership opportunity is open for an experienced maternal-child health RN ready to influence one of the region’s most active birth programs. As the Assistant Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery, you will guide frontline practice, shape overnight operations, and remain closely connected to the clinical decisions that define safe, responsive obstetric care. This is a visible role for a leader who thrives in a high-acuity setting and wants genuine operational ownership.

The hospital offers an established practice environment supported by experienced nursing leaders, engaged physicians, and a stable interdisciplinary team. Thoughtful onboarding will help the incoming leader understand workflows, expectations, and key partnerships while preserving the autonomy to make timely decisions. A collaborative and accountable leadership culture creates room to strengthen staff capability, pursue quality improvements, and prepare for broader nursing management opportunities.

This high-volume Women’s Services program welcomes several thousand newborns annually and manages hundreds of deliveries each month across more than 50 obstetric beds. The modern maternity pavilion includes private labor and delivery rooms and all-private postpartum accommodations, advanced maternity technology, and a Level II NICU supported by 24/7 neonatal care, neonatologists, and specialized NICU nurses. The Assistant Nurse Manager L&D will help coordinate a team of approximately 100 professionals while partnering with obstetric providers, certified lactation consultants, and a perinatal RN navigator. The environment demands confident oversight of staffing, patient flow, clinical escalation, quality priorities, and continuity across Labor & Delivery, postpartum, neonatal, and ancillary services.

Reporting through nursing leadership, the Assistant Nurse Manager Labor and Delivery will serve as the primary operational leader during assigned night hours, with strong support from physician and nursing executives. Responsibilities include real-time resource allocation, coaching and evaluating staff, reinforcing clinical standards, supporting complex cases, and resolving barriers affecting throughput or patient experience. Close relationships with obstetricians, neonatal specialists, nursing supervisors, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and other support departments will give this leader meaningful influence over care delivery, team development, and organizational goals.

Life in the Central Valley combines comparatively attainable housing, manageable commutes, a warm climate, and a family-oriented community atmosphere. Residents enjoy a growing dining and arts scene, access to agricultural markets, and convenient opportunities for hiking, cycling, water recreation, and weekend mountain escapes. The region can be especially attractive to professionals seeking more space and everyday convenience without giving up cultural variety or outdoor access.

Compensation is competitive and aligned with experience; the confidential range can be discussed directly with a recruiter. The total rewards package includes annual incentive eligibility, a progressive sign-on incentive, relocation assistance, paid time off, health and welfare coverage, tuition reimbursement, continuing education support, and 403(b) matching with formal leadership development through the healthcare organization’s internal training curriculum.
