Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological sciences with required science credits.
• 23 science credit hours; 3 in physics, math, or statistics; 16 in chemistry.
• Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology: 23 science credits; 3 in physics, math, or statistics; 16 in biology or chemistry.
• Hematology: 23 science credits; 3 in physics, math, or statistics; 16 in biological science; plus corresponding requirements.
• Microbiology: 23 science credits; 3 in physics, math, or statistics; 16 in biological science.
• Specific course requirements include Chemistry, Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Hematology, Immunohematology, and related areas.
• Applications accepted from candidates scheduled to graduate at end of current term.

Responsibilities

• Performs waived and automated analytic tests (qualitative, semi-qualitative, or quantitative)
• Oversees calibration on self-calibrating instruments and performs calibration-related processes
• Performs selected moderate and high-complexity analytic procedures (automated and non-automated)
• Operates laboratory instruments and maintains equipment; performs routine maintenance under supervision
• Maintains records and documentation; conducts quality control within defined parameters
• Accurately logs and processes specimens according to departmental procedures
• Follows proper specimen collection, handling and transport procedures
• Trains on new procedures to competency; assists in QA indicators and SOP review
• Assists in data collection for QA and validation activities
• Assists in creation/review of SOPs and internal/external proficiency testing
• Stocks reagents and supplies; assists in training laboratory technicians
• Other duties as assigned
