Job description

Job Title: Lab Technician

The primary function of this position is to collect samples for analysis using gas cabinets and fume hoods. Additionally, the role involves performing simple wet chemistry tests and assisting with sample analysis of other products as necessary. The technician will operate and maintain sophisticated gas equipment and analytical instrumentation, and may be involved in designing, developing, and executing new analytical processes. Chemicals involved can be hazardous, requiring careful handling and safety measures.

Essential Functions

1. Collect samples from gas cylinders
2. Clean laboratory labware
3. Perform wet chemistry tests
4. Make mechanical connections such as VCR, Swagelok, and NPT fittings
5. Leak check equipment to ensure gas tightness
6. Use basic computer software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
7. Handle flammable liquids, acidic, and caustic solutions and materials
8. Transport and handle pressurized gas cylinders safely
9. Maintain accurate documentation and record all lab data
10. Conduct analytical tests using various instruments
11. Develop and assist in developing analytical instruments and methods
12. Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
• Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience involving construction of gas manifolds and handling specialty gases
• Knowledge of handling, analyzing, and processing reactive or corrosive gases
• Experience with gas handling equipment and analytical techniques such as ICP-MS, FTIR, GC, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with LabView and other specialized software is a plus

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This position involves occasional movement, lifting, reaching, and other physical activities, with most tasks performed in a stationary position. Safety protocols and PPE are required for handling hazardous chemicals and gases.
