Job description

The Brain Circuits Laboratory, led by Steven Small and Ana Solodkin, is seeking a highly motivated Lab Technician interested in the study of brain aging and language, with particular emphasis on the role of sleep, exercise, diet, and social connectedness in the dynamic connectivity of the brain during language processing. Additionally, they will be responsible for the administrative aspects of running a laboratory (i.e., scheduling, record-keeping, etc.) and interacting with human subjects.

The ability to do coding in Python, R, and/or MATLAB is a plus. Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills and a strong interpersonal manner are important for triaging solutions, identifying and executing troubleshooting efforts, planning equipment, and resource use, and interacting with lab members and older adult research participants.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate degree with a minimum of two years hands-on experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Preferred Education and Experience

HIGHLY PREFERRED :

  • Candidates with a strong background in cognitive neuroscience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for the laboratories.
  • Run a laboratory (i.e., scheduling, record-keeping, etc.) and interact with human subjects.
  • Provide cognitive testing, data analysis, brain imaging, coding.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of human clinical research, cognitive and motor testing, and brain imaging.
  • Ability to perform brain imaging analysis, including some simple scripting and coding.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research activities and make decisions according to ethical standards.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Attendance at the UTD Department of Neuroscience – Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Building (TI-BMES) on the UTSW campus in Dallas.

Additional Information

Remote Work: A hybrid remote work schedule intermittently may be possible, but not consistent. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal computer, internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.

Travel: Some travel to the Brain Health Imaging Center and/or Callier Center/Dallas.
