Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist for a full-time, day-shift, onsite role in Akron, Ohio. The position involves performing routine and complex laboratory testing and evaluating results to support patient diagnoses.

You will collect, process, and analyze physician-ordered tests, apply scientific judgment, and ensure high-quality laboratory information for clinical decision-making. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science with internship or equivalent experience.
• ASCP Technologist certification or eligibility is preferred/required.
• 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follows procedures for collecting and processing specimens and evaluating acceptability.
• Prioritizes test requests and uses professional judgment to evaluate results.
• Performs laboratory tests across disciplines using various techniques and equipment.
• Interprets results, reports findings, and communicates them per policy.
• Monitors quality control, calibrates/troubleshoots equipment, and documents actions.
• Assists in training new staff and conducts competence assessments.
• Maintains a neat, safe work area and participates in department education.
• Provides patient care considerations appropriate to age and safety needs.
