Job summary

AdventHealth in Kissimmee, FL is seeking a Laboratory professional to join the team as a full-time technologist. The role involves phlebotomy, specimen processing, and coordination with clinical staff across multiple facilities in the Kissimmee area.

Responsibilities include sample handling, staining, culture setup, safety compliance, and participation in performance improvement initiatives while delivering excellent patient service.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program [Preferred]
• Experience in laboratory/phlebotomy settings is desirable

Responsibilities

• May perform cytopreparatory staining and accessioning surgical cases.
• May receive and set up primary specimen cultures, inoculating petri dishes for bacterial growth.
• May clean and disinfect laboratory equipment and spaces, maintaining inventory control and supply stocking.
• Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment and procedures.
• Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff.
• Follows safety policies including PPE use, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
• Adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
• Collects patient/physician/test order information to create patient accounts and verify details.
• May perform blood specimen collection, including phlebotomy and skin puncture for all ages.
• Performs support activities to facilitate department operations, including telephones and clerical tasks.
• May perform point of care testing with quality control and documentation.
• Receives, processes, and transports patient specimens, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Loads preanalytical instruments or delivers specimens to testing.
• May transport hazardous waste per regulations and complete required training.
• May process blood products using a Transfusion Information System.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
