Job summary

nLeague is seeking a Microbiologist for the IDOH Water Microbiology Laboratory in Indianapolis, IN to coordinate and perform SARS-CoV-2 testing in wastewater and water samples. The role includes sample examination, data recording, QC, and reporting results, with an emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include molecular testing, method validation, and contributing to environmental lab projects, under a 3+ month engagement.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a BS degree in biological science.
• Experience performing RNA extraction & qPCR testing is required.

Responsibilities

• Microbiologist for IDOH Water Microbiology Laboratory coordinating and performing tests for SARS-CoV-2 and other targets of public health concern in wastewater samples.
• As the Microbiologist, you are responsible for coordinating and performing tests for SARS-CoV-2 and other targets of public health concern in wastewater and water samples.
• Duties include sample examination and analyses, recording, interpreting, and result reporting of test results. You are responsible for completing all required Quality Control, compliance with all certification requirements, and maintaining all required safety standards.

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Conduct wastewater sample concentration, RNA extraction and PCR molecular testing. Maintain laboratory record system of submitted samples.
• Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results.
• Conduct quality control checks on laboratory methods, materials, and equipment.
• Assists with preparation of reports from data compiled.
• Participate in evaluation of new products used in environmental laboratory work.
