The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention (ACDP) section is seeking a Lab Surveillance Coordinator to support essential statewide infectious disease surveillance efforts. This position plays a vital role in ensuring complete and accurate reporting of reportable infectious diseases and infections monitored through the Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) system, and in maintaining the integrity of data collected through the Foodborne Illness Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet). The Lab Surveillance Coordinator will participate in and help lead data-gathering efforts for multiple FoodNet epidemiologic studies, including coordinating staffing needs as projects expand. This role also surveys clinical laboratory practices to support accurate interpretation of surveillance data, coordinates specimen and bacterial isolate transfers to OSPHL, CDC and reference laboratories, collaborates with federal and multi‑state partners to improve epidemiologic study design, and serves as a key public health liaison to clinical laboratories across the state.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to the agency program that demonstrates the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and two years experience coordinating or administering a program
OR Any combination of experience or education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skill requirements listed for the classification.
Note: Relevant knowledge and experience may include familiarity with public health surveillance systems, core public health and epidemiology principles, collaboration with laboratory and epidemiology partners, strong data analysis and reporting skills, effective communication with clinical and public health partners, national laboratory registry, and microbiology testing methods.
Preference will be given to candidates who have more years of relevant experience, meet a greater number of the desired attributes, and hold a bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, or chemical science along with minimum of one year of clinical microbiology laboratory experience.
