Job summary

Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, NY is seeking a Specimen Management Tech to join the Laboratory - Specimen Processing team. This part-time role focuses on accurate data entry, patient and specimen labeling, and preparing samples for testing.

You'll work 20 hours per week with a schedule including Tue/Sat/Sun shifts, supporting imaging and LIS/HIS workflow, maintaining documentation and communicating with floor staff and physicians.

Qualifications

• Must understand written instructions and communicate information accurately
• Data entry/computer skills required
• Medical terminology and billing understanding preferred
• Enrollment in Medical Technology program for interns (if applicable)

Responsibilities

• Perform data entry and labeling of laboratory samples accurately and timely.
• Prepare laboratory samples accurately and timely for laboratory testing.
• Operate imaging system as appropriate and retrieve requisitions or manage filing as requested.
• Maintain knowledge of HIS and LIS systems and navigate related operating systems.
• May perform limited training as requested.
• Communicate with floors and physicians regarding tests, results, labeling, and requirements.
• May transport specimens and prepare paperwork for transfer and testing in other departments or labs.
• For Medical Technology Interns: perform simple laboratory procedures under supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
