Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree or higher preferred in related field.
• Experience levels: 1+ year for Doctoral-level Scientist, 2+ years for Master's-level, 4+ years for Baccalaureate-level in acute care.
• 5+ years in an Acute Care Facility setting and 2+ years in senior/supervising capacity.
• Computer experience, inventory control/budgeting, quality assurance, performance improvement, and work scheduling required.
• Strong organization/time management and effective oral and written communication skills required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
• Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.
• Proficiency with computers and medical terminology required.
• Leadership/ guidance skills.
• Fire Life Safety Training within LA City within 30 days of hire.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician CPT (CA DPH) or CPT II; MLT/ASCP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages operations of the Laboratory and oversees Department performance, including budget oversight.
• Provides administrative reports and covers Lab operations in emergencies.
• Ensures compliance with hospital policies and accreditation requirements.
• Implements Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities.
• Instructs and orients new employees and communicates day-to-day operations.
• Conducts annual performance appraisals and participates in staff selection.
• Coordinates intradepartmental and interdepartmental services and problem solving.
• Plans staffing to meet service demand and schedules lab work.
• Ensures policies and procedures support service scope.
• Monitors turnaround time by optimizing specimen handling and delivery.
• Leads and motivates staff, maintaining strong working relationships with physicians and departments.
• Manages customer relationships through issue resolution and proactive collaboration.
• Balances multiple priorities and handles additional duties as assigned.
