Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Laboratory MLA to receive, prepare, and process specimens, answer calls, and stock supplies. The role includes registering patients, performing test orders, and mentoring MLA students as needed.

Primary duties involve handling waived testing, maintaining a clean work area, and providing general support to the laboratory team. This is an on-site role in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of a medical assistant program or a phlebotomy program receiving a medical assistant or phlebotomy certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient account.
• Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. Stocks supplies.
• Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
• Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing AHN policies and procedures.
• Orders, performs and results waived testing.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Education
