Job summary

Cornell University in New York City seeks a Research Assistant to support laboratory and investigative procedures, including assays and imaging, with possible work involving animal models or human subjects.

Under supervision, you will prepare records, assist with bench work, maintain inventories and training of new staff, while adhering to safety standards and reporting progress to investigators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Some bench lab experience is required or preferred.
• Ability to plan and prioritize work and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain detailed records, logs and summary reports of procedures and results.
• May be responsible for tissue & cell culture activities.
• May be responsible for animal husbandry, genotyping, surgeries, post-operative care, behavioral testing, sectioning and histology.
• Perform routine molecular biology procedures such as PCR, protein and DNA electrophoresis, cloning and DNA prep.
• Run routine biochemistry assays including western blotting and RT-PCR.
• Conduct microscopic imaging analyses.
• Manage receipt, storage, cataloguing and shipment of samples between institutions.
• Ensure safe laboratory practices and proper disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Analyze data using software and report results to principal investigators.
