Job summary

Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support veterinary anatomic pathology research. You will assist with experiments, data collection, and analysis, and contribute to publications while helping run daily lab operations.

The role is onsite in Ithaca, NY, full-time for one year with potential extension. Visa sponsorship is not available, and travel is not required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in biology or related field and up to 2 years relevant experience in a research lab.
  • Experience or training in molecular biology techniques including qPCR, Western blots, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization.
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture and ability to learn new lab software/systems.

  • Conduct research experiments using qPCR, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and microscopy.

Job description

Join the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and contribute to innovative research in a multidisciplinary environment. As a Laboratory Technician, you’ll support research projects for veterinary anatomic pathologists while helping develop experiments and collect and analyze data. You’ll also play an important role in laboratory operations, including managing supplies and equipment, supporting safety and compliance, and training other lab members. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and collaborative professional who is excited to contribute to a dynamic veterinary research environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research experiments using techniques such as qPCR, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, and microscopy.
  • Support Anatomic Pathology faculty with research projects, data collection, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage laboratory operations, including supplies, equipment, reagents, inventory, and safety procedures.
  • Train and support lab personnel while maintaining accurate records and contributing to scientific publications.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in biology or a related field and up to 2 years relevant experience working in a research laboratory or equivalent combination.
  • Experience or training in molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, Western blots, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization.
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated scientific curiosity and ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and the ability to learn new laboratory software and systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of directly related, full-time lab experience.
  • Experience or training in basic histology includes use of microtome and basic histologic processing.
  • Experience using image analysis and statistical computer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt published procedures to the specific needs of the project.
  • Experience with anatomic pathology skills such as performing a necropsy
Important Details about the Position
  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a full-time one-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
