The purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of the undergraduate and certificate medical laboratory science teaching laboratories including lab set-up, stock culture maintenance, inventory control, and equipment calibration and maintenance; to perform some assistance and supervision as needed during student labs, especially as related to instrument operation; to address faculty requisitions as requested across all of the MDTS professional programs, including existing Certificate programs and developing MS programs; and assist in ordering supplies and equipment for the department. Assist in maintaining inventory of clerical and laboratory equipment, and coordinating with faculty and procurement in acquisition, installation, and maintenance of ETF equipment purchases.
Considerable knowledge of general laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety techniques used in a chemical, biological, research, teaching, or medical laboratory. Working knowledge of equipment, instrumentation, and math skills involved in media and reagent preparation. Working knowledge of quality control, inventory, instrument calibration and maintenance, and operation of office reproducing equipment. Working knowledge of applicable computer software to include Microsoft Office products. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow instructions. Demonstrated ability to maintain records; to record and report results/outcomes. Demonstrated ability to lead or direct the work of others.
Either Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) certification (or eligibility to obtain), or a B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology or a related field.

Comprehensive experience working in a laboratory setting to include student or employee supervision and assistance, quality control, inventory, and instrument calibration and maintenance.
Both Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) certification and a B.S. degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology or a related field or higher. Microbiology, phlebotomy/serology, and other medical laboratory experience. Some experience working in a university laboratory setting. Some experience supervising others in a laboratory setting. Some experience with instrumentation required for medical laboratory science classrooms. Class I & Class III Waste Management Facility Operator License with Commonwealth Virginia.
