Job summary

UF Health in Gainesville, FL seeks a Phlebotomist to perform routine and advanced venipuncture and specimen collection. Under supervision, you will handle preanalytical steps and basic lab workflows, release orders, and prepare samples for transport.

Responsibilities include loading samples, preparing slides, and ensuring proper handling for microbiology, hematology, immunohematology and chemistry analyses. CPR certification is required.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital based preferred).
  • Preferred: graduation from a certified health-related program at high school level or above; AP science courses; college science studies (min 3 credit hours).
  • GPA of 3.0 or above preferred.
  • Must have computer skills using a PC or hospital systems.
  • Ability to multitask, take on responsibilities, and work as part of a team.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

Lab PAA/Phlebotomist performs routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures. Under direct supervision, performs routine laboratory analytical procedures related to preparing and storing human biological samples, blood and body fluids, for microbiological, hematological, immunohematological and chemical analysis. Releases and/or places orders in hospital and laboratory computer systems, receives, processes and distributes specimens and/or blood products. Performs various preanalytical functions including loading samples onto analyzers, preparing slides for staining and preparing samples for transport to other laboratories.

Hours: Variable

Days: Monday-Friday

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Requires completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital based preferred).
  • In addition, one or more of the following is preferred:
    • Graduation from a certified health-related program at high school level or above; OR
    • Successful completion of Advanced Placement courses in the sciences at the high school level; OR
    • Successful completion of science based studies at college level (minimum 3 credit hours).
  • Prefer GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have computer operational skills using a personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital information system.
  • Applicant should display initiative, have the ability to multitask and be able to take on responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current CPR certification is required.
