Essex County College invites applications for a Laboratory Specialist who will prepare materials and setups for all division laboratories under the supervision of the Chairperson for the Division of Biology and Chemistry.

Qualifications

• One year of experience with laboratory preparation in life sciences.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrate reliability and flexibility.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials and setups for laboratories on weekday, evening and weekend schedules.
• Assemble and disassemble equipment for laboratories.
• Remain available during lab sessions to provide materials and assistance.
• Supervise lab technicians, part-time laboratory specialists and student workers.
• Provide assistance to faculty and adjunct faculty as needed.
• Keep inventory of materials; manage materials in compliance with regulations.
• Store and dispose laboratory wastes properly according to regulations.
• Coordinate for purchasing materials needed for operations while ensuring compliance.
• Maintain laboratory facilities and arrange repairs as required.
• Maintain up-to-date files on each course area with labs outlines and materials.
• Maintain reports and records on laboratory materials.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of records.
• Prepare routine and ancillary reports as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.
