Job summary

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, log, and distribute incoming shipments, including temperature-sensitive and hazardous materials
• Prepare and package outgoing shipments in line with carrier and regulatory requirements
• Coordinate with vendors and couriers to track orders and resolve delivery issues
• Maintain accurate inventory of lab supplies and reagents using internal database and Quartzy
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all chemicals
• Monitor stock levels, place reorders, and flag shortages or expiring materials
• Restock lab benches and common areas
• Assist with waste disposal and general lab housekeeping
• Schedule annual recertification of laboratory equipment and ensure safety documentation

Summary

We are seeking a Lab Operations Specialist to be the backbone of our day-to-day lab operations and inventory management. You'll handle shipping and receiving for the site, keep inventory accurate and well-stocked, and make sure scientists have the support and materials they need to do their best work. This is a hands‑on role for an organized, dependable person who enjoys solving practical problems and working with a variety of teams.

Key Responsibilities

Shipping & Receiving

• Receive, inspect, log, and distribute incoming shipments, including temperature-sensitive and hazardous materials
• Prepare and package outgoing shipments (samples, equipment, returns) in line with carrier and regulatory requirements
• Coordinate with vendors and couriers to track orders and resolve delivery issues

Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and consumables using internal database and Quartzy
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all chemicals (physical copies and electronic)
• Monitor stock levels, place reorders, and flag shortages or expiring materials
• Organize storage areas, freezers, and cold rooms to keep them clean, labeled, and efficient

General Lab Support

• Restock lab benches and common areas
• Assist with waste disposal, glassware handling, and general lab housekeeping
• Schedule annual recertification of laboratory equipment (e.g. fume hoods, analytical balances)
• Help maintain safety compliance and documentation

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• 0-2 years of experience in lab operations, including shipping/receiving and inventory management
• Knowledge of lab safety practices and safe handling of chemicals
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Comfortable with basic computer tools (email, spreadsheets, inventory software)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand or walk for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with hazardous materials shipping or DOT regulations

Additional Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• U.S. Person and ability to obtain a security clearance
• Ability to work on-site and travel as needed
