Job summary

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) seeks a Manager of Laboratory Facilities for the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Westchester Campus. You will lead fabrication labs and machine shops, overseeing equipment maintenance, safety, and day-to-day operations.

You will support courses and student projects, train Work Study and TA staff, and coordinate with faculty to enable hands-on learning across the department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree requirement or equivalent in engineering technology or related field.
• Minimum three years of journey-level experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
• Familiarity with CNC machines, manual tools, welding and forming tools, and controllers/interfaces with mechanical processes.
• Experience interacting with diverse student body, faculty, and staff; ability to support underrepresented groups in engineering.
• Strong troubleshooting, safety, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support instructional function in Mechanical Engineering courses with manufacturing needs; assist in course preparation and delivery.
• Engage students in active learning; aid in development of manufacturing exercises and labs.
• Prepare equipment for student usage; ensure safe operation and demonstrations of equipment; fabricate teaching tools as needed.
• Support faculty and student research and design projects; assist with manufacturing research setups; help select and develop manufacturing methods.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment; organize inventories; troubleshoot and repair as necessary; coordinate with vendors for major repairs.
• Oversee Work Study and Teaching Assistant staff; train and supervise students in shop activities.
• Represent LMU in engineering community and professional organizations; participate in departmental activities.
• Perform additional duties in labs as needed and ensure safety compliance.
