Job summary

Jackson Hospital is seeking a dedicated laboratory assistant to manage specimen receipt, identify patient specimens, and provide front desk support with courteous customer service. You will handle pneumatic tube receipts, clerical tasks, and information for nurses and doctors.

Responsibilities include logging external requests, preparing send-out specimens, charting reports, and maintaining accurate entries in the Lab system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy preferred, along with customer interaction, public relations skills, and age-specific needs.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently handle laboratory specimen receipt in a timely manner; correctly identify patient specimens while receiving blood/non-blood specimens in Lab computer system and charting patient reports, practicing good customer service skills.
• Provide coverage of front desk area, including receipt of specimens by pneumatic tube, clerical functions associated with specimen receipt, answering phones, and providing information to nurses, doctors, etc. as required.
• Log patient requests from outside facilities or offices; prepare send-out specimens for reference laboratory following outlined protocol; chart lab reports as required.
• Manage information in Lab computer system.
• Receive and process all laboratory test specimens (blood and non-blood). Perform steps required to complete specimen receipt plus general lab and reference sample processing.
• Train new staff in each area with competency maintained.
• Perform any other assigned duties, which may include charting of cumulative reports.
