The Lab Engineering position in R&D area requires a skilful Engineer familiar with supporting scientists with laboratory PCs, instrumentation, and devices. Lab Engineers are focused on maintaining operational computer systems for the scientists they support, joining newly-supplied hardware to the network, securing and hardening devices and generally facilitating the needs of the business.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining existing computer infrastructure of 5000 PCs globally
- Image/Onboard new computers into the domain and onto the network and decommisiion it.
- Secure and protect new and existing hardware
- Consult with the business as they require assistance with their equipment
- Troubleshoot and implement data flows for scientific instruments
Technical/Functional Skills:
- Outstanding computer troubleshooting skills for obscure issues, ranging from device connectivity, and laboratory software issues
- Background with End-user Computing or Desktop Support skills essential. Break/Fix consists of 80% of a Lab Engineer’s workload
- Understanding of Harware Components and Networking concepts, such as network topography, VLANSs, Static/Dynamic IPs, Subnetting, IT/OT Networks, and basic understanding of firewalls. Candidate should be familiar with the OSI model and how to troubleshoot different network layers
- Knowledge and understanding of Active Directory required
- D2D and/or project support
- AGILE ways of working necessary
- Background with computer security
- Previous experience with validated systems (GxP) a plus
- Implement the validated data backup solution on laboratory analytical equipment (equipment and software investigation, documentation, technical configuration) within R&D (GxP and non-GxP)
- Support for scientists in incident management, user support and coaching, access management
- Testing and validation of computer software (complete tests in different environments, writing technical documentation)
- Familiar with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow
- Microsoft Excel skills a plus
- Indepth knowledge in Microsoft OS including iOS and Linux a plus
