Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa is seeking a part-time courier to transport laboratory specimens, mail and supplies between facilities and clients. The role emphasizes safe, timely deliveries and strong customer service.

Responsibilities include following infection control policies, using courier software, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and participating in department huddles. Qualifications include a high school degree, English proficiency, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school degree or GED, required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Two years’ experience as a courier, preferred.
• Working knowledge of materials management preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License required; must meet MercyOne’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
• Be at least 18 years old; eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Transports laboratory specimens, mail and other materials and/or supplies utilizing excellent customer service skills.
• Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and bloodborne pathogens.
• Handles chemicals according to established safety protocols.
• Meets defined workload productivity standards.
• Supports and utilizes LEAN principles.
• Utilizes courier logistical software and devices to track packages and document route.
• Ensures temperature dependent materials are transported at their required storage temperature.
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicles and courier bags.
• Attends and participates in department huddles.
• Follows established policies and procedures to accurately track packages and obtain optimal transport time.
• Participates in teaching peers.
