Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, based in Seattle, is seeking a Laboratory Containment Technician to certify, test, inspect, and document biological safety cabinets and related containment devices in BSL-2 environments.

Responsibilities include field testing, report preparation, calibration management, and coordinating with researchers, facilities staff, and vendors to maintain safe and compliant laboratory operations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering technology or equivalent with related technical field.
• 1–2 years' experience certifying, testing, maintaining, inspecting, or troubleshooting laboratory containment equipment.
• NSF/ANSI 49 Accredited Biological Safety Cabinet Field Certifier credential or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Valid driver's license and knowledge of airflow measurement and HEPA filtration.

Responsibilities

• Perform certification, testing, and recertification of biological safety cabinets and related lab containment devices.
• Follow standards and guidelines (NSF/ANSI 49, ASHRAE 110) for airflow, containment, and testing.
• Prepare reports, maintain testing records, and coordinate schedules with researchers and facilities staff.
• Provide guidance on equipment operation and best practices to ensure safe laboratory operations.
