Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA is seeking a Laboratory Equipment Technician to ensure containment equipment operates in accordance with standards and best practices. You will perform field testing, maintain calibration and prepare reports in collaboration with researchers and facilities staff.

The role requires an associate degree or equivalent, 1–2 years of testing experience, and familiarity with NSF/ANSI 49 and ASHRAE 110.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, EH&S, biology, or related field.
• 1–2 years' experience certifying/testing biosafety cabinets and related equipment.
• Current NSF/ANSI 49 accredited Certification credential or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of airflow, HEPA filtration, and containment technologies.
• Experience preparing technical reports and maintaining testing records.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work safely in active research laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform certification, testing, and recertification of biosafety cabinets, clean benches, laminar flow workstations, PCR enclosures, and fume hoods.
• Test per NSF/ANSI 49, ASHRAE 110, and institutional policies.
• Evaluate airflow, HEPA integrity, and containment using measurements and tooling.
• Troubleshoot deficiencies, support repairs and commissioning activities.
• Prepare and maintain certification reports, test records, and calibration docs.
• Coordinate schedules with laboratory personnel, facilities staff, and vendors.
• Provide guidance on containment equipment operation and best practices.
• Support program development and quality assurance initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.
