Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA is seeking a Laboratory Containment Technician to certify, test, and maintain biological safety cabinets and related containment systems in active research labs. You will prepare reports, verify airflow and HEPA integrity, and coordinate with researchers and facilities staff to ensure safe operations.

The role requires an Associate degree or equivalent, 1–2 years of relevant experience, and a current NSF/ANSI 49 credential or the ability to obtain it

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1–2 years’ experience certifying, testing, maintaining, inspecting, or troubleshooting lab containment devices.
• Current NSF/ANSI 49 Accredited Biological Safety Cabinet Field Certifier credential or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift/transport testing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform certification, testing, and recertification of biosafety cabinets, clean benches, and fume hoods.
• Test airflow, HEPA integrity, and containment using approved methods.
• Maintain certification reports, test records, and equipment inventories.
• Coordinate schedules with researchers, facilities staff, and vendors.
• Provide guidance on containment equipment operation and best practices.
