Job summary

Abbott is seeking an Assistant Chemist I at our Sturgis, MI location within the Nutrition division. This role tests raw ingredients, in-process and finished products to ensure quality and compliance with GMP guidelines, contributing to manufacturing timelines and safety standards.

You will collaborate with chemists and operators, maintain training records, and assist in problem-solving to support product quality and regulatory compliance across Abbott’s nutrition portfolio.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and 1 year of college lab studies with 1 year of college math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus) plus 2 years of lab experience OR 4 years in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Or a Science-related Associate Degree with at least 1 year of college lab studies and 1 year of college math plus 1 year of related lab experience OR 2 years in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• May include additional related qualifications as appropriate for an Assistant Chemist I role.

Responsibilities

• Test raw ingredients, in-process materials, and finished product per quality procedures.
• Ensure specifications and quality guidelines are met; work within manufacturing schedule and safety guidelines.
• Maintain good manufacturing practices and good laboratory practices; interact with other chemists and operators.
• Provide timely feedback to supervisors and lead chemist about status of duties.
• Assist in maintaining training documents and drive training activities.
• Identify and help troubleshoot minor testing problems and report out-of-spec conditions.
• Support compliance with FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies.
