Job summary

Itron, Inc. is seeking a Software Quality Engineer based in Liberty Lake, WA to run our device lab and ensure DEM software works correctly with connected devices.

You will set up devices, configure networks, and coordinate with IT, security, and engineering to validate software functionality and ensure lab readiness. You will develop and execute manual test plans, report defects, and support ongoing product improvement while collaborating with distributed teams and supporting lab operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 0-2 years of professional experience in software quality assurance or related technical field.
• Experience performing software testing, including test case creation and defect reporting.
• Basic familiarity with Linux and Git.
• Exposure to at least one programming or scripting language.
• Hands-on technical work with devices, wiring, and troubleshooting.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work on-site at Liberty Lake, WA three days per week.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory devices (thermostats, DERs) in the device lab.
• Install and maintain supporting network infrastructure for device operation.
• Collaborate with IT, security, networking, and engineering teams to ensure device connectivity and lab readiness.
• Support integration and testing of new hardware, including prototypes and DERs.
• Maintain remote access capabilities for a distributed team (cameras, remote monitoring).
• Communicate device availability, testing readiness, maintenance, and outages to stakeholders.
• Develop and execute manual software test plans and test cases to validate product functionality.
• Identify, document, and track software defects; assist root-cause analysis.
• Report test results and feedback to support continuous product improvement.
• Participate in feature reviews and quality planning to understand testing requirements.
