Job summary

Itron is seeking a Software Quality Engineer based in Liberty Lake, WA to run our device lab and ensure DEM software works correctly with the physical devices it controls. You will set up a wide range of DERs and smart devices, coordinating with IT, networking, and security to enable device operation and remote access for a distributed team.

You will develop and execute manual test plans, report defects, and collaborate with engineering to improve product quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent.
• 0-2 years in software quality assurance, testing, or related technical area including internships.
• Experience performing software testing with test case creation and defect reporting.
• Familiarity with Linux and Git version control.
• Exposure to at least one programming or scripting language.
• Ability to perform hands-on device setup, wiring, and troubleshooting.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration across teams.
• On-site work ability: minimum three days per week in Liberty Lake, WA.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory devices (thermostats, DERs, etc.) for DEM software testing.
• Install and maintain supporting network infrastructure and cellular connectivity for device operation.
• Collaborate with IT, networking, security, and engineering teams to ensure lab readiness and access control.
• Coordinate with teams to test hardware prototypes and early-stage DER products.
• Maintain remote access capabilities and document test results and outages.
• Develop and execute manual test plans, test cases, and procedures to validate product quality.
