Job summary

Itron is seeking a Software Quality Engineer to run our device lab in Liberty Lake, WA, ensuring DEM software works with physical devices. You will set up devices, configure networks, and coordinate across IT, security, and engineering to validate software and hardware integration.

Responsibilities include developing test plans, executing tests, documenting defects, and supporting remote access for a distributed team. On-site work is required, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• 0-2 years of professional experience in software quality assurance, software testing, engineering, or related field.
• Experience performing software testing, including test case creation, execution, and defect reporting.
• Basic familiarity with Linux operating systems and Git version control.
• Exposure to at least one programming or scripting language.
• Ability to perform hands-on technical work, including device setup, wiring, hardware configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, including collaboration across teams.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude.
• Ability to work on-site a minimum of three days per week.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform lab movement.
• Travel: 1-10%.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory devices (smart thermostats, DERs).
• Install, configure, and maintain lab network infrastructure and connectivity.
• Collaborate with IT, networking, security, and engineering to establish device access and lab readiness.
• Support integration and testing of new and prototype hardware, including early-stage DER products.
• Maintain remote access capabilities for a globally distributed team (cameras, remote monitoring, power cycling).
• Communicate device availability, testing readiness, maintenance schedules, and outages to stakeholders.
• Develop and execute manual software test plans, cases, and procedures to validate product functionality.
• Identify, document, and track defects; support RCA with engineering.
• Report results and provide feedback for product improvement.
• Participate in feature reviews, sprints, and quality planning to understand testing needs.
• Demonstrate accountability, agility, and collaboration in innovative utility solutions.
