Job summary

Merck in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Specialist, Laboratory Automation / Controls Engineer to advance automated and connected laboratories using SCADA platforms such as Ignition. You will collaborate with automation, digital engineering and IT to connect equipment, workflows, and data.

Minimum requirement is a B.S. in Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience and experience with SCADA software (Ignition, DeltaV, WinCC OA).

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirement: A B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical), Computer Science, Robotics or related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience developing, configuring, testing, or supporting SCADA/orchestration solutions (Ignition, DeltaV, WinCC OA).
• Experience with scripting/programming following best practices (version control, design patterns, clean code).

Responsibilities

• Build the digital backbone of automated laboratories using SCADA components that connect equipment, workflows, and data.
• Translate scientific workflows into scalable systems by partnering with researchers and automation engineers.
• Develop defined components across the operations technology platform stack including equipment modules, user interfaces, and orchestration logic.
• Solve integration challenges by applying established methods across software, automation, and laboratory workflows.
• Share knowledge through training materials, documentation, and development best practices.
