Job Description - Lab Assistant Team Lead (2500029O)

Department Profile:

The Laboratory Department provides comprehensive clinical and anatomic pathology services with advanced instrumentation and professional expertise. Annually, over 3 million billable orders are processed. The department is fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists, COLA, and CLIA, ensuring high standards of excellence. Staff includes medical technologists, lab assistants, and phlebotomists. A certified Medical Technologist Program supports future staffing needs. The department offers a research-driven testing menu with rapid reporting to support clinical decisions across chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, coagulation, anatomic pathology, cytology, microbiology, flow cytometry, and molecular diagnostics for patients of all ages. It also supports point-of-care testing within the hospital and offsite facilities.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, the Lab Assistant Team Lead coordinates the daily activities of the Customer Support Services areas to facilitate departmental functions. This includes scheduling, staffing, and workflow coordination, utilizing independent judgment and adhering to TGHand departmental procedures. The role involves directing and assisting in daily work assignments of staff, ensuring duties are performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience as a laboratory assistant or one (1) year lab experience with a bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, equating to two (2) years of experience.
• Knowledge of and expertise in all departmental areas, including phlebotomy procedures, specimen processing and receiving, customer/call center operations, and referral testing.
