Job description

Status: Full time

Department: 60352 WI ACL Laboratories - WI Central Lab: Spec Process

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule Details/Additional Information: Monday through Friday, 06:30am - 3:00pm. Works every third full weekend from 06:00am - 2:30pm as well as two holidays a year.

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Ensures specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Resolves specimen identification and requisition issues and clarifies requests.
  2. Obtains billing/insurance information and verifies diagnosis codes.
  3. Enters and verifies test requests into the laboratory's computer system.
  4. Answers and screens telephone calls.
  5. Receives, sorts, and handles specimens; packages and tracks for transport; performs storage and retrieval.
  6. Processes specimens for testing, including aliquoting, maintaining proper identification.
  7. Reviews reports, generates, and distributes them.
  8. Assists with inventory and supplies ordering.
  9. Maintains and files orders, reports, and correspondence.
  10. Acts as a resource and trains new employees.
Qualifications:
  • None required for licensure, registration, or certification.
  • High school graduate.
  • No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with software applications.
  • Keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and work under supervision.
  • Customer service skills for effective interfacing with physicians, patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Operate necessary equipment.
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Sit, stand, walk, and bend most of the workday.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, infectious agents, and human fluids.
  • Wear appropriate protective gear as needed.
  • Handle stressful situations professionally.

$19.45 - $29.20
