Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a Public Health Laboratory Technician performing high complexity sample analysis according to environmental/biological scope and/or accredited under CLIP.
  • Perform high complexity tests authorized by the Clinical Laboratory Senior Scientist.
  • Complete demonstrations of capabilities as required by the laboratory.
  • Follow all laboratory policies and SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with 42 CFR 493 regarding specimen processing, test performance, and reporting.
  • Perform only those high complexity tests authorized by the laboratory director, based on education, training, or experience.
  • Maintain records of test results, proficiency testing, quality control, instrument calibration, and maintenance.
  • Identify and address problems affecting test performance or reporting, and notify supervisors as needed.
Non-Essential Duties:
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Candidates must qualify under one of the following options:

  • Licensed medical doctor (MD), osteopath (DO), or podiatrist (DPM) in the state of employment.
  • Degree in a relevant science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • Equivalent education and training, including at least 60 semester hours of science or medical laboratory technology courses, with specific coursework in chemistry and biology.

AND

  • Laboratory training, either through an approved clinical laboratory training program or documented laboratory training in high complexity testing.

High school graduates with military medical laboratory training may also qualify.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands for handling objects, reach, talk, and hear. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Vision must include close, distance, and depth perception.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with extensive computer use. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.

Additional Factors:

Must pass background screening, drug test, and provide proof of eligibility to work. COVID-19 vaccination proof may be required.
