Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is seeking a Regular full-time phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing, and related pre-analytic tasks. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure accurate specimen handling and timely transport across departments.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Shift coverage includes rotating days/evenings/nights with holidays, supporting patient care across the hospital.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required or equivalent.
• Ability to perform blood collection and specimen handling per standard procedures.
• Commitment to safety, patient confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood and specimens from patients per established standards.
• Label, transport, and store specimens accurately and timely.
• Process laboratory specimens including centrifugation and distribution.
• Complete patient registration and test orders accurately in the system.
• Resolve routine specimen and order issues and escalate non-routine problems.
• Interpret orders to determine collection timing and specimen types.
• Perform point-of-care testing as directed.
• Assist with record-keeping and regulatory documentation.
• Maintain supplies and inventory.
