Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist for a regular, on-site role. You will perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for inpatients and outpatients, ensuring proper identification and accurate data entry.

You will label, transport, and storage specimens, and perform point-of-care testing as needed. Ideal candidates have High School or GED, and a Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP) or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High school or GED required; ASCP-credentialed phlebotomist preferred.
• Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP) highly preferred and experience with hospital settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection per approved hospital policies.
• Identify patients and explain collection procedures to ensure proper preparation.
• Complete patient registration and data entry for tests as required.
• Label, transport, and store specimens accurately and timely.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers by phone, pager, or in person.
• Interpret test orders to determine collection timing and specimen types.
• Perform point-of-care testing per established standards.
• Assist with records maintenance and regulatory compliance.
