Job summary

St. Davids Round Rock Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant PRN to join our laboratory team.

You will perform venipuncture, specimen collection, processing, and assist in microbiology and histology, ensuring proper labeling and timely reporting of results. You will support in administrative tasks, coordinate with lab staff, and maintain quality and safety standards in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

• 1 year of hospital phlebotomy experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Formal phlebotomy training from an accredited program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collection appropriate to patient age.
• Collect, process, and transport specimens.
• Identify proper tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type.
• Ensure positive identification of patient and samples.
• Assist in microbiology, including plating cultures and quality control.
• Assist in histology, including basic procedures and specimen tracking.
• Answer phones, relay messages, and transfer patient test results.
• Distribute reports to Health Information Management, physicians, and clients.
