Job summary

Ogden Regional Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team in Ogden, Utah. This PRN position supports multiple departments with blood collection, specimen handling, and basic testing under supervision.

You will assist in processing specimens, maintaining records, and providing courteous patient and staff service while adhering to safety and quality standards. Training and mentorship for new staff are included.

Qualifications

• Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.
• Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Course in medical terminology preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
• Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.
• Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
• Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
• May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
• Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.
• Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
• Maintains needed equipment and supplies.
• Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
• Orients and mentors new staff members.
• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
• You will provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
• You will order Laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.
• You will verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
• You will send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
• You will train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
