Job summary

Ogden Regional Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented phlebotomy and specimen receiving professional to join our laboratory team. You will collect blood samples, ensure proper patient identification, and label specimens accurately for testing.

Responsibilities include receiving specimens, logging results, training new staff, and maintaining high standards of quality control and patient service at our busy facility in Ogden. Valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow hospital procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Phlebotomy and specimen receiving experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology course or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
  • Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
  • Trains new employees in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
  • Provides courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and staff.

Job Summary And Qualifications
  • Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.
  • Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
  • Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
  • May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
  • Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.
  • Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
  • Maintains needed equipment and supplies.
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
  • You will order Laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.
  • You will verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.
  • You will send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
  • You will train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.
  • Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Course in medical terminology preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
