Job summary

MercyOne Health System is hiring a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments in specimen collection, processing, and reporting to aid patient diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence that is honest, caring, and capable of supporting Trinity Health and MercyOne values.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures and specimen collection following policy.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions, manages add-on orders.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels correctly.
• Registers specimens in LIS and scans required documentation.
• Performs specimen processing per lab protocols.
• Resolves problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
• Follows safety and infection control procedures to ensure quality testing.
• Maintains LIS data entry and workflow management.
• Restocks supplies and participates in department projects.
