Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper specimen collection and patient safety.
• Drive to patient service centers to perform phlebotomy services as needed.
• Accept specimens and requisitions from customers, providing excellent customer service.
• Identify patients and specimens using two identifiers and label containers correctly.
• Register specimens and log them into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), evaluating specimen adequacy as needed.
• Perform specimen processing, including identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, slide preparation, and documentation.
• Follow established procedures, policies, and safety protocols, including infection control and bloodborne pathogens.
• Handle chemicals safely according to protocols.
• Meet workload productivity standards and support LEAN principles.
• Proficiently use laboratory information systems and computers.
• Participate in peer teaching and follow-up on out-of-range temperatures.

Schedule

• Monday - Friday 7:45am- 5pm

General Requirements

• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory experience preferred.
• Computer skills required.
• For reference labs: Valid Iowa driver’s license and compliance with MercyOne’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; must be at least 18 years old.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
