Job summary

UConn Health Center is seeking an Animal Care Supervisor for the Center for Comparative Medicine to lead a team delivering husbandry services for laboratory animals. The role emphasizes compliance with federal, state, and regulatory guidelines and coordination with other units.

The position focuses on staff training, performance evaluations, and the development of laboratory procedures to ensure high-quality care and accurate records in a stable, academic medical setting.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in animal care services in a laboratory animal care and/or academic setting.
• One (1) year of General Experience must be at the level of Animal Care Technician.
• College training in a related field may be substituted for General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

• Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff.
• Provides staff training and assistance.
• Conducts performance evaluations.
• Determines priorities and plans laboratory workflow.
• Assists in the establishment, implementation and maintenance of laboratory procedures.
• Make recommendations on the development of laboratory policies and standards.
• Acts as a liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
• Ensures unit operations are in compliance with federal, state and regulatory agency guidelines and regulations.
• Oversee general care of laboratory animals and maintain compliance with animal care regulations.
• Maintain animal, supply and personnel records.
• Prepare reports and correspondence.
• Perform related duties as required.
