Job summary

Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls Village, CT, operates a certified kosher kitchen and immersive environmental programs. We seek mashgichim to ensure Kashrut standards are followed in kitchen and food services, with responsibilities including monitoring meat/dairy/parve separation, Shabbat and holiday usage, and occasional housing for staff.

The role requires halachic observance, ServeSafe certification, kitchen experience, and leadership/communication skills.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be halachically observant and have a working knowledge of hilchot kashrut, shabbat, and eruvin.
• Must obtain a ServeSafe Food Handler’s Certification.
• Experience working in a Kitchen.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team and communicate well with others.

Responsibilities

• Monitor proper distinction between meat, dairy, and parve foods and labeling.
• Monitor proper usage of kitchen on Shabbat and Jewish holidays by Jews and non-Jews.
• Re-koshering of items when necessary.
• Unlock/lock kitchen and dining hall doors as required.
• Lock/unlock meat and dairy cabinets as needed.
• Inspect greens and produce for bugs.
• Check eggs for blood spots.
• Toiveling (dunking items) when needed.
• Provide Kosher support to staff housing as requested.
• Koshering kitchen for Passover and Chalov Yisroel retreats.
