Job Posting: High School Knowledge Bowl Head Coach

Salary Range: $1,273 - $2,121

Position Title: High School Knowledge Bowl Head Coach / Advisor

Reports To: Athletic and Activities Director

Season Dates: Typically November through late February/March

Compensation: Stipend-based (commensurate with district collective bargaining agreements)

Position Summary

The Knowledge Bowl Head Coach is responsible for the overall organization, development, instruction, and supervision of a successful interscholastic academic team. The primary goal is to foster a positive, inclusive team culture centered around student growth, sportsmanship, and academic accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Plan, organize, and facilitate weekly practices, mock meets, and study sessions.
  • Student Development: Instruct students in fundamental strategy, time‑management, specific academic content, and team buzz‑in mechanics.
  • Event Supervision: Manage student behavior and safety during travels, local invitationals, regional meets, and state competitions.
  • Logistics & Administration: Coordinate meet schedules, team rosters, and transportation with the Student Activities Office.
  • Compliance: Ensure alignment with all school district regulations and state activities association guidelines.
  • Culture Building: Create an equitable, highly motivating environment that encourages diverse student participation.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience participating in or coaching Knowledge Bowl, Quiz Bowl, or similar academic competitions is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to work effectively with high school youths in group settings.
  • Background Check and Drug Screen: Employment is strictly contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screen.
