Position Purpose

A Kitchen Steward, also known as a Dishwasher or Kitchen Assistant, plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen of a restaurant, hotel, or other food service establishment. They are responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen by handling dishwashing, cleaning tasks, and assisting the kitchen staff as needed. Here is a typical job description for a Kitchen Steward:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Dishwashing: Operate commercial dishwashing machines or wash dishes, glassware, utensils, and cooking equipment by hand. Ensure proper cleaning, sanitization, and drying of all items in compliance with health and safety standards.
  2. Kitchen Cleaning: Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, including countertops, sinks, stovetops, ovens, and food preparation areas. Sweep and mop floors, remove trash, and maintain overall cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen.
