Job summary

Crescent Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Kitchen & Laundry Mechanic to maintain and repair commercial kitchen and laundry equipment, ensuring safety and reliability across hotel operations. You will diagnose failures, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate with Engineering for specialized services, while supporting other hotel departments as needed.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in similar roles, strong mechanical and electrical skills, and experience with kitchen and laundry systems.

Qualifications

  • Technical/vocational or trade school training in mechanical or electrical systems, commercial appliance repair, HVAC/R, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience repairing and maintaining commercial kitchen and/or laundry equipment preferred.
  • Experience in hotel, restaurant, hospital, or commercial facility maintenance preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with commercial refrigeration, gas equipment, steam systems, plumbing and electrical controls preferred.

Description

The Kitchen & Laundry Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overall operational reliability of the hotel's commercial kitchen and laundry equipment. This position supports hotel operations by ensuring equipment is maintained in safe, efficient, and serviceable condition while minimizing downtime and disruption to Food & Beverage, Culinary, Housekeeping, and Laundry operations.

Essential Job Functions
Kitchen Equipment Maintenance
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, broilers, steamers, warmers, dishwashing machines, ice machines, refrigerators, freezers, coolers, and other food-service equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Inspect equipment for proper operation, temperature, safety, and overall condition.
  • Respond promptly to kitchen equipment service requests to minimize operational disruption.
  • Assist with the installation, replacement, and commissioning of kitchen equipment as assigned.
  • Maintain familiarity with gas-fired, electric, steam, refrigeration, and plumbing-related kitchen equipment.
  • Identify equipment that requires specialized vendor service and communicate findings to Engineering leadership.
Laundry Equipment Maintenance
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, extractors, ironers, presses, finishing equipment, and related systems.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection, and replacement of worn components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, steam, and water-related issues affecting laundry equipment.
  • Inspect belts, bearings, motors, valves, switches, controls, drains, hoses, and other equipment components.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to reduce downtime and support continued laundry operations.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring problems or conditions that may result in equipment failure.
Preventive Maintenance & Repairs
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance inspections and work orders accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, inspections, preventive maintenance, parts used, and equipment conditions.
  • Identify potential equipment failures before they result in significant operational disruption.
  • Communicate equipment deficiencies, repair needs, and recommendations to Engineering leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining an appropriate inventory of commonly used replacement parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinate with approved outside contractors and equipment vendors when specialized repairs or inspections are necessary.
  • Follow manufacturer specifications and established Engineering procedures when performing repairs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, mechanical rooms, workshops, and assigned work areas in a clean and organized condition.
General Engineering Responsibilities
  • Respond to Engineering work orders and operational emergencies as assigned.
  • Assist the Engineering team with general hotel maintenance when kitchen and laundry operational needs permit.
  • Support basic plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and general maintenance functions within the scope of the position's training and qualifications.
  • Participate in hotel preventive maintenance programs and property inspections.
  • Report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, water leaks, electrical concerns, gas concerns, or other potential hazards immediately.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures as directed by Engineering leadership.
  • Maintain professional communication with Culinary, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Laundry, and other hotel departments.
  • Protect hotel property, equipment, tools, and supplies from damage, loss, or misuse.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all hotel safety procedures, Engineering standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment, as applicable.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing assigned work.
  • Follow safe procedures when working around electrical systems, gas equipment, steam, hot surfaces, chemicals, moving machinery, and pressurized systems.
  • Immediately report any condition that could create a safety hazard for associates or guests.
  • Ensure equipment is returned to service only when it can be operated safely.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, or training applicable to assigned responsibilities.
Education & Experience
  • Technical, vocational, or trade school training in mechanical systems, electrical systems, commercial appliance repair, HVAC/R, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years Previous experience repairing and maintaining commercial kitchen and/or commercial laundry equipment strongly preferred.
  • Previous hotel, restaurant, hospital, institutional, or commercial facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems required.
  • Experience with commercial refrigeration, gas equipment, steam systems, plumbing, and electrical controls preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The successful candidate should possess:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Working knowledge of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment failures systematically and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, refrigeration, steam, and gas systems.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize urgent equipment failures while managing scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering leadership, operational managers, associates, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism when responding to urgent operational situations.
  • Basic computer skills necessary to complete electronic work orders and maintenance documentation.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, and working in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and/or move approximately 50 pounds, with assistance used for heavier equipment or materials.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at varying heights when required.
  • Ability to work around hot equipment, steam, water, grease, chemicals, mechanical equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to safely perform work in kitchen, laundry, mechanical, and back-of-house environments.
