Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks an Advanced Kinetic Weapons Engineer to generate and analyze high-fidelity missile data, evaluating interceptor performance and validating simulations for credibility. You will present key findings to sponsors and influence future system designs, while working in a security-conscious environment.

Requirements include a PhD in engineering/CS/math/physics, strong data-analysis skills, HPC experience with SLURM/UGE, and proficiency

Qualifications

  • PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics or soon to be awarded.
  • Experience analyzing simulated large-scale dynamical systems.
  • Ability to craft clear visualizations and explain outcomes.
  • Experience with HPC clusters and scripting (SLURM/UGE).
  • Exposure to VV&A testing and model-based systems engineering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and analyze simulated guided missile data using high-fidelity simulations.
  • Evaluate performance of interceptor systems including EO/IR/RF seekers and guidance.
  • Verify and validate simulations against requirements and real data.
  • Present findings to government sponsors such as Navy and MDA.
  • Impact future designs and decisions for warfighting systems.
