Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, seeks a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Engineer to develop and deploy integrated M&S software for performance analysis of missile defense components.

You will work in cross-functional teams to design, implement, and validate simulation workflows, translating results into clear sponsor insights. Proficiency in Python and C++ and Linux is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in software development and integration.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ with ability to translate concepts into well-documented, efficient code.
  • Familiarity with Git.
  • Familiarity with Make/CMake build systems.
  • Comfort using a debugger in Linux environments.
  • Clear communication of ideas and results.
  • Eligibility for Interim Secret clearance, with potential for Top Secret.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams to select suitable modeling and simulation approaches.
  • Architect integrated software solutions to optimize simulation workflows.
  • Develop integration layers to enable interoperability between applications.
  • Create and maintain scripts to orchestrate large-scale simulations.
  • Prototype algorithms within models for concept exploration and feasibility studies.
  • Diagnose and debug software defects and trace anomalous results.
  • Analyze outputs and translate insights for sponsors.
  • Deliver presentations to technical staff and sponsors.
