Job summary

The Perry County Public Library seeks a Children’s & Young Adult Services Assistant to support collection development and programming for kids and teens. This role reports to the Head of Children’s & Young Adult Services and supports outreach and online programming.

Responsibilities include planning programs, tracking participation statistics, assisting patrons, maintaining the Summer Reading Program, and helping with digital library services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Submit application with a cover letter and resume.
• Indiana Public Library Librarian Certification Level 6 or above (or ability to attain a temporary permit within 6 months).
• Valid Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), printers, copiers, telephones, projectors, social media, and other popular technology.
• Ability to work Saturday rotation, some evenings, and events outside normal library hours.
• Preferred: Experience with children and teens.
• Preferred: Previous library experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers a variety of programs for children, teens and young adults, including outreach initiatives and online programming.
• Keeps track of program numbers and other stats per Indiana State Library requirements.
• Assists patrons in selecting and locating materials and information.
• Contributes to operations of the Children’s & Young Adult Services Department.
• Assists with weeding and identifying needs in the children’s and teen collection.
• Provides reference and information services to patrons in person, social media, email, and phone.
• Assists in organizing the Summer Reading Program and reading-tracking materials.
• Supports digital library services and maintains knowledge of databases and equipment.
• Collaborates with head and coworkers on projects and programs.
• Assists in creating seasonal or timely book displays.
• Attends trainings and keeps current on trends in children’s/YA services.
• Maintains required LC6 certification and continuing education credits.
• Manages department communications and cross-training for coverage.
