Job summary

Black Caucus of the American Library Association is seeking a Manager for Kid & Teen Central at Central Library in Indianapolis. The role oversees operations, staffing, and budget with a focus on programs for diverse youth audiences.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s in Library Science, Indiana Librarian Certification 2 (or eligible), and 3–5 years of relevant experience. This is a full-time, exempt position with varied day/evening/weekend hours for events.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science is required.
• Indiana Librarian Certification 2 - Branch or Department Head or ability to obtain it upon hire.
• 3–5 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Kid & Teen Central staff, provides on-the-job learning opportunities, sets clear expectations, and conducts staff meetings.
• Oversees creation and promotion of exhibits, digital activities and programs; schedules, delivers and evaluates them based on feedback and changing needs.
• Directs staff in maintenance of the collection; recommends new materials and promotes the collection.
• Monitors patron behavior and informs patrons of library guidelines; serves as Person in Charge as needed.
• Oversees department budget and monitors expenditures.
• Collects and analyzes data on library use, services, trends and community resources.
• Instructs patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources; assists with computer use and access.
