Job summary

Great Paws Lodge & Day Camp in Marion, IL is seeking a Kennel Assistant to provide care for dogs and cats during grooming or boarding visits. You will help maintain a clean, safe boarding area, follow client instructions, and assist the team under supervision.

The role involves walking dogs, feeding, monitoring health, and ensuring proper facility hygiene. Weekend availability is preferred, and previous veterinary experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Patience, compassion and professionalism when interacting with doctors, teammates, clients, and patients.
• Collaborate effectively with practice team, incorporate feedback, and help others.
• Strong communication of boarding outcomes to clients and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Provides great care for patients visiting the practice for grooming and/or boarding.
• Ensures patients are admitted with instructions, contact information, and pickup time.
• Records feeding schedules, appearance, and behavior during visits.
• Observes patients for general condition, illness, and discomfort.
• Handles patients safely and restrains difficult ones as needed.
• Walks patients several times daily for exercise and elimination.
• Applies knowledge of food/water requirements and administers special diets as needed.
• Ensures patients are clean, checked by Technician/Doctor prior to discharge, and personal property is returned.
• Keeps cages/personal items organized and stored properly.
• Cleans, disinfects kennels and runs, launders towels/blankets, and maintains the hospital environment.
• Maintains grounds, disposes of trash, and performs other duties as assigned.
